I disagree with the first paragraph. The only time you need to shock a pool is when the chloramines, or combined chlorine, is over 0.6 – 0.8 for 3 consecutive days. This is when a good FAS-DPD K2006 test kit comes in handy.
Only shock when you test you pool and it demands it, not because it’s the 2nd Saturday of the month.
