There are 3 basic types when it comes to an above ground pool cover. Mesh, leaf net, and solid covers. Mesh and solid covers are very similar. They both let water through them and filter out any dirt and debris. The major difference between both of them is the fact that the mesh covers are woven tighter than the leaf net versions. The solid covers are made of solid material and do not let any dirt and debris in. These type accumulate water and snow on the top, and periodically have to be cleaned off. A good choice for these types is to have a pump on top, or have an inflatable ball made specifically for floating underneath the cover. Then water and snow runs off the top and does not accumulate so badly on the surface.

What type of above ground pool cover should you get? Well all of them do a great job in keeping most debris out. The solid covers tend to be less expensive that their mesh and leaf net sibilings. Of course you can purchase different quality levels with all above ground pool covers, but generally solid covers tend to be cheaper.
