Question by FloridaLady: Is it possible to build a free-form swimming pool using a epdm pond liner? Not for fish or plants..only people

Best answer:

Answer by macerally
I think you could although I have never done this. We did put in a fish pond though. You would have to use chemicals to keep it clean. The pond liner might be really slippery if it gets any growth on it. You would have to be careful not to rupture the liner as well. More trouble than it is worth I would think.

Answer by Paul M
The chemicals you’d need to use will rot the liner, also the finished result will look awful. On top of which people produce a lot of water flow pressure which will mean the sides will gradually collapse unless they are set under with concrete.
Oh….and you wouldnt be able to get a heater to suit it and if you had to drain it you’d have to pail or pump it out. Ifd you don’t have proper pump driven filtration you will need to empty it about once a month at the very, very least or you’ll get botchulism and all sorts.

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by Brian M: Does anyone know where I can buy swimming pool vinyl liner sealing tape for a “low hung” liner?
This is a white tape to cover the seams and the track that the liner fits into. The liner tracks into the wall below the water line. Polynesian used to make the pools and carry the supplies but have since gone out of business.

Best answer:

Answer by Cathy M
I have a polynesian pool, 18X36. I had the liner replaced about 12 years ago from a place in Terra Haute, Indiana. They did a decent job and used the white tape. I don’t recall the name of the company but you could try the yellow pages. If you have any luck let me know. I’m just about in the need for another liner and would also like to have a roll of the tape. If I recall the tape was something like $ 75/roll at that time. No telling what it will cost now if available. Are you sure the Polynesian has gone out of business? thanks

Best answer:

Answer by Patricia M
There’s a repair kit, depending on how bad it is.

Answer by Joker
liner tape.

Answer by Chris
It has alot of varying factors. How big is the rip or tear? If its relatively small, you can probably patch it with a repair kit, but even still your liner will now have a weakspot due to the rip, the patch really just seals the liner to stop it from leaking.

IF its a gash that is 8 inches or 12 inches long, odds are you are going to want to replace the entire liner…. Even if you can get it patched, it may not hold, and you could wake up to a suprise some night if and when it finally lets go, and all of your water drains from the pool….. If you have an above ground, and its near the house, this could result in flood damage toyour property.

Answer by Patricia M
There’s a repair kit, depending on how bad it is.

Answer by Joker
liner tape.

Answer by Chris
It has alot of varying aspects. How big is the rip or tear? If its relatively little, you can probably patch it with a repair kit, but even still your liner will now have a weakspot due to the rip, the patch really just seals the liner to quit it from leaking.

IF its a gash that is 8 inches or 12 inches lengthy, odds are you are going to want to replace the entire liner…. Even if you can get it patched, it may not hold, and you could wake up to a suprise some night if and when it finally lets go, and all of your water drains from the pool….. If you have an above ground, and its near the house, this could result in flood damage toyour property.

About to get a liner for my pool. Standard thickness is 20ml but 28ml guage is an alternative. Really should it make a distinction? Also what brand is the finest?
