The very phrase of a backyard skating rink might make people shy away from even considering it because they think it must be a costly proposition to make and maintain. There are two main ways of constructing a backyard skating rink. The first one is the conventional method and other is a latest or high-tech one. In both the cases, you might need a comparatively level plane to have the rink and to be able to skate down the snow in the area where you require the rink.

In the high tech procedure, you need to ring the surface with scrap two by fours and then introduce a huge plastic cover for a liner. You then need to fill the plastic cover with say about two inches of water, and in case the night has been pretty cold, you shall have a rink on the next day. Take care to avoid cheap black plastic if you want some grass with the change of season. You can bargain at a good price if you decide to buy the skating rink kit after winter and use it for the next winter.

In the conventional method of making backyard skating rink, you will need to spray water on the snow base that you readied for the next few days to firm the snow base. It is essential you think of making some banks too skirting the future snow surface and spray water there too. You may employ a leaf skimmer in case of any debris falling in the water as it starts to freeze.

One must agree that preparing backyard skating rink is an enjoyable experience which enables your family to endless hours of fun! Preparing your own backyard skating rink is convenient and allows your family members and guests to have fun and frolic on the ice. This gives an ample chance for kids to master the game of ice hockey. You will be able to incorporate improvements to the rink in due course to make it more perfect and user friendly. Once you have a perfect looking backyard skating rink, you can look forward to having an exciting time with family and friends, in the safety of your premises.

Are you tired of having your children always asking you to go over to someone elses house to play with the latest new toy or enjoy the most recent innovation? Wouldnít it be nice to have all the neighborhood children wanting to come over to your house to play instead? Now, with a backyard skating rink, you can do exactly this!

While ice skating in July could be very enjoyable, especially in California, a backyard skating rink wouldnít be very practical in this situation. But for outside activities during the colder winter months, especially in the northern states, this is a sport that many children enjoy. In fact, I remember moving to Northern Ohio, where my children immediately traded in their roller blades for ice skating, even during the summer months. I paid so much money in skating fees that I finally bought them their own skates, just to cut back on the cost.

Building a backyard ice skating rink that all of their friends could enjoy would certainly have its benefits. Certainly the parents would appreciate having their children skate without being required to pay ten dollars for the privilege each week. In fact, it would save the area children so much money that it might even be cost-effective to ask other parents to contribute toward the cost of maintaining a backyard ice skating rink. In cold weather, the maintenance cost would be relatively low, and if it were located in the backyard, keeping an eye on the children through the kitchen window wouldnít be too difficult.

Of course, one of the drawbacks of having a backyard ice skating rink would be increased popularity. Everyone would want to come to visit all the time and skate. Of course, this allows a parent plenty of opportunities to meet the local children with whom his or her children are associating. That is actually a pretty good way to keep tabs on who your kids are hanging out with though, and gives you a pretty good idea of the character of those kids. If they are all skating in your backyard, they will probably stay out of trouble, as well. All in all, it sounds like a pretty good deal.

This might be kind of early in the season to talk about backyard ice hockey rinks, but I bet that many of you don’t know about these. You can actually build a ice rink for you backyard yourself, but with many types of styles and kits available today, using one of these kits are the best and easiest way to enjoy one. And it would probably cost you as much or more in materials if you did it yourself vs buying a ice rink kit.

People love to ice skate, and outdoor public ice rinks are very popular. One of the most popular places is the ice rink up in New York city at Rockerfeller Center. They get over a quarter of a million people visit there each year. And it is actually considered part of the NY experience when you visit there. Other popular ice rinks in NYC are Wollman Rink and Lasker Rink in Central Park. One more great ice rink that comes mind is the Pond at Bryant Park. The great thing about all these ice rinks is that admission is free. So you can see why backyard ice hockey rinks are becoming popular because you can enjoy this winter activity at home.

A very popular brand of Backyard Ice Hockey Rinks are made by NiceRink. These kits come in different deluxe packages, and have everything you need to put together and install your rink. They even have all the accessories you will need to maintain your rink throughout the winter season. All of the kits are affordably priced and within a couple of hours, you will have the frame and structures up and ready to fill with water. These kits take the guesswork out of installing backyard ice hockey rinks, and will disassemble and store easy during the warmer months of spring, summer and fall.

NiceRink has been around along time and some of the innovative features,

“NiceRink brackets are the most unique and easiest method ever devised to make the perimeter of an outdoor, temporary ice rink. So unique in fact, they’re patented. The NiceRink ™ brackets were designed and engineered based on the knowledge we’ve gained from building and skating on our own outdoor rinks using the traditional sideboard and pounded stake method. The NiceRink ™ brackets eliminate the need to “build” a rink. They are easy to use and cut installation time by at least half. With that in mind, we know you’ll enjoy the practical purpose and clean esthetic look of the bracket’s design on your NiceRink. The NiceRink brackets spaced every 4′ are designed to accommodate 3-14″ of ice with no additional support needed. This is accomplished by using our Thermoformed Plastic Sideboards or a 3/4″ thick plywood in variable height panels of 12″, 16″ or 24″ as required by your rinks location, design and how the rink will be used. The ability to adjust the board height makes it easier to erect a rink on uneven or sloping ground. The minimum board height is 8″ with a maximum suggested height without additional support of 24″. This allows for as much as a 10″ pitch (14″ of ice) using the NiceRink backyard ice rink brackets alone. For rinks placed on uneven or slopping ground, there is a 3/4″ diameter stake hole within the bracket to provide extra stability when needed. Frost penetrating stakes are available in 18″ and 24″ lengths. Brackets should be placed every four feet along the perimeter. Place them every 2 feet apart and add steel stakes into the bracket for any deeper areas that exceed 14″ of water/ice. If the water/ice gets up to or over 18”, please contact us for additional board support recommendations.”

Check our the many styles of backyard ice hockey rinks that are out there today. Don’t limit your outdoor leisure activities to the warm weather only. Winter time can be just as fun too!
