Pool Covers – I’m not even ready yet…..

We moved into our new house this year and along with the house itself, we had an inground pool installed at the same time. Along with the pool came a host of maintenance products that helped us take care of the pool. Automatic pool cleaner, swimming pool hand skimmer and pool vacuum, floats and rope to section off the shallow end from the deep end.. things like that. But what we didn’t get was any type of pool covers. And it is time to start thinking about that for me, because we have an inground pool, and I will have t install a custom cover.

There are a few choices of pool covers for our particular application. We are going to go with a inground solid safety cover, because of the fact that it is an inground pool, and we have TONS of trees around our house. I just cant wait for fall to clean up those leave.. (not really I’m being sarcastic here). Since it is going to be a custom cover I need to start thinking about his now, so I can get someone out to measure my pool so it can be made. For us it has been such a late summer with all the bad weather we got, I don’t even want to think about covering our pool yet. Oh well….

Solid pool covers are suppose to be so strong, that some manufactures state you can walk an elephant across it. I saw that advertisement years ago, and remember it well. You wouldn’t catch me even walking myself across a cover. My parents long ago had a pool and had purchased a mesh type safety pool cover. I remember them letting the dogs out to go to the bathroom and they would walk across the pool cover, sink down and get a drink of water. It was a funny sight and I remember it from time to time.

I’m going to try to hold out this year as long as I can before I close the pool, because of the crappy weather up here in the northeast. I’m going to call to get the cover measured and scheduled to install this week, but I will wait until after Labor Day hopefully, to cover up with a pool covers. What are all of you doing this year? Will you hold out as long as you can to close your pool?
