Pool Solar Blankets…
Summer is coming to a close and Labor Day is just around the corner. This year’s swim season was kind of messed up, because we really got a late start because of all the rain and cooler weather and rain we got. So this year we are going to extend our season till the end of Sept. Actually just before the leaves usually start coming down in my area. We have a pool heater so we can extend our season anyway, but this year I’m going to look at the pool solar blankets and consider purchasing one.
What I have tried this year is the liquid pool solar blankets. They have worked pretty good for us. The statistics state that they work and are about 60% as efficient as the regular bubble type covers. I think that they might work a little better than that as the nitrogen cover has worked great on our pool. It is the perfect type cover for me, cause I tend to be LAZY… lol Our pool has stayed around 82 degrees and above on average this year, which I think is pretty good.
Other two major types of pool solar blankets are the bubble type and the solar rings. The bubble type cover is one big sheet that you wrap around and store on a big roller when not in use. These type of course are very effective, because they cover the entire surface of the pool, and let very little water evaporate. Water evaporation is where you loose most of your pool’s heat. My father had this type and I remember it was a two person job to roll it up and out properly. Over the course of 20 years, I think he replaced his 3 times. The sun reeks havoc on them.
The other type are the solar rings. These work and are similiar as the bubble type pool solar blankets, but they float on top of your water individually. They have a magnetic ring around the edges of them, and are made to connect to other solar rings. You have to use many of them depending on the size of your pool. These work more efficiently than the liquid covers, but less than the solid bubble type covers.
If you are like me, you go the lazy man’s way with pool solar blankets. If you are like my dad, the solid solar cover is the only way you will go. No matter what you choose though, they will all provide you with decent heat retention….
